AC Type Welders

Avio NRW-25A AC Type Welder
AC line type welders is recommended typically for thick plates and copper stranded wire as it allows for longer weld times than other stored energy type welders. This makes it applicable for all seam seal or rolling sport applications. It is a cost effective solution for readily weld-able materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and other metals when a long heat dwell is desired or permissible. Specifically, this type of power supply provides the following advantages:
- Settable Preheat, Upslope, Duration, and Cool Times provide a level of control and flexibility
- Build in Head Control to enable squeeze times and hold times for tempering or quenching the weld.
- Compensation circuit isolates the power source from fluctuations in plant power providing a stable output.
- Easily integrated into a larger more automated system
AC welding technology
All AC welders are designed to run AC power through a transformer and into a part. The amount of output current is determined via the tap on the transformer and its windings. For fine tuning, only a portion of the waveform is applied to the primary windings of the transformer, limiting how much energy will be delivered into the part.Because line voltage fluctations can affect the weld current delivered by the welder, modern AC welding controllers are designed with input voltage compensation circuits which help provide a more consistent output. Duration of a weld is controlled by the line cycle rate (in the US this is typically 60 Hz, or 16.67 milliseconds) - where the minimum weld time is a half-cycle.
